I've spend hours filtering through zillions of models including a dozen vendors out there but I'm especially curious about the differences between these two:. If you have other models on mind that could fit please don't hesitate to mention those as well.

Both seem to be fully IPv6 capables but, again, the IPv6 features set of Aruba looks more complete. Here I'm excluding IRF They're two very different horses An entry level to the world of Aruba and R zl2.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise International. We are acquiring another campus where I work and it will be coming with several HP switches for access.

Some of the existing ports are different models or don't have PoE, so we were going to standardize with s. We currently are using Juniper EXs as access switches. So it seems like the s, with added stacking modules and the ability to add 10G modules if needed, are a good choice.

But, we may be able to receive a steep discount on the s. I'm not happy about having different model switches, but money talks. It's that, or our business manager will get the s on eBay. So I have two questions. Are the s and s identical in management interface?

Also, understand the s do true stacking, in that a LAG can be configured across interfaces on multiple switches. Are the s the same? The F has true stacking but it's done with VSF and ordinary cabling and not with separate stacking modules like in the So you can't stack them with each other.

You mean you can't stack a with a F? That makes sense. And the GUIs are the same, too? To continue this discussion, please ask a new question. EG wrote: You mean you can't stack a with a F? I'm not sure about that, but at least the CLI should be the same. Someone else should correct me if that's not the case. They call it frontplane stacking when with s it's backplane stacking with dedicated modules.

Stacking (VSF) Aruba Switches

The speed needed as a VSF link is different per switch, lookup the minimal speed needed in the switch manual. Go to Solution. VSF member priority — default value is ; configurable; Member priority determines the possibility of a member device to be elected the Commander. A member with higher priority is more likely to be elected the Commander.

NOTE: Changing the priority does not affect the commander immediately. It will take effect from the next stack reboot, during the commander election. When a standby takes over as commander, one of the member switches is upgraded to standby role. And like I said before.

In case the member 2 is commander and the member 3 is standby, when member 1 was down and reconnects it will be a member. There is no need to elect an commander as there is already one active, member 2. View solution in original post.

I configured a ring vsf-stack, giving all needed information: While testing I disconnected the commander and everything went fine. Standby becomes new commander, member becomes standby. After that I reconnected the "old commander" Member 1 and got the following result:. I now disconnected the new Commander Member 2 and all I could recognize ist, that Member 3 becomes the new Commander, als shown below:.

Because of the given priority I expected Member 1 to become Commander again, but instead of this Meber 3 with lowest priority is preferred to become new commander. But you expect your member 1 to become the standby when I reconnects, making the member 3 as role members and setting the member 1 to standby.

If that is the normal way, why should I then use something like priority-count? Is this behaviour correct? Welcome Back!

You can also use the copper ports for VSF links as well. Welcome Back! Select your Aruba account from the following: Aruba Central Login to your cloud management instance.

The second is connected to the first via a 3 port fiber optic trunk. Each of those switches connects directly to one of my switch. I would like that when a loop is created on one of my older switch that the port that this looped switch is connected to on my would shut down so the rest of the network would not be affected.

I have spanning-tree turned on to RPVST, I have no auto-edge-port on the ports that connect to my other switches, I have those ports setup as loop guard ports, I have loop protect setup on Vlan1, 5 sec transmit interval and sec port disable timer.

When I connect an HP on one of those port on my and loop it, I start dropping pings on my f root switch and it affects all of my network, No dropped pings on my and no port shutdown. What am I missing? Go to Solution. I'm not entirely sure what that means. Your test with the HP is precisely what loop-protect is designed to prevent. Loop-protect is setup on interfaces, not on a VLAN. Aruba conf Aruba config sho loop-protect. I had it setup for vlan mode but I switched it to port mode and selected the ports I wanted loop protected.

I created a loop on my HP connected to port 16 and again the port did nothing. My core switch started dropping every secong ping. The show loop-protect said there was no loop detected on that port.

I created a loop on the between 2 ports and it still showed no loop detected on those 2 ports I had looped. You can also turn on loop protection on the spanning tree which I have done also. I was able to get it to work by disabling the spanning tree.

Now when I create a loop on the HP the port that it connects to on the Aruba shuts down. After seconds it turns back on. When I run show loop-protect is shows when the port is down and how long since the last loop. Is there a command to reset this runni9ng counter? Now when a loop is created on my network the uplink port to that looped switch shuts down for 5 minutes. When I login to the Aruba switch I can see which port is in a looped state and act on it.

I have 2 Aruba f setup as a VSF as my root switch. If you have switches provisioned in a UI group, Aruba Central allows you to configure port trunking on these switches using the UI workflows. Your network administrators can configure a trunk group on switches to create one logical link or a trunk by aggregating multiple links.

The trunk link functions as a high-speed link to provide increased bandwidth. A trunk group is a set of up to eight ports configured as members of the same port trunk. Aruba Switch Series. LACP is used for the collective handling of multiple physical ports that can be seen as a single channel for network traffic purposes.

The names of the trunk groups include the prefix Trk followed by the numbers in a sequential order. For example, Trk1, Trk2 and so on. STP is a network protocol that builds a logical loop-free topology for Ethernet networks.

In computer networking, a single Layer 2 network may be partitioned to create multiple distinct broadcast domains, which are mutually isolated so that packets can only pass between them through one or more routers; such a domain is referred to as a Virtual Local Area Network, Virtual LAN, or VLAN. Ensure that the switches are onboarded and provisioned to a UI group in Aruba Central. Click Wired Management. From the group selector, select the UI group to which the switches are assigned.

The Trunk Group page opens. Enter a name for the trunk group. In the Type drop-down menu, select one of the following options:. Trunk —Use this option when the device to which you want to create a trunk link is using a non In the Ports drop-down menu, select the ports for trunking. You can use up to eight ports for link aggregation. The ports in a trunk group need not be consecutive. Click OK. To verify the configuration, click Configuration Audit.
